Virtuosic technique! Wild improvisation! Daring key changes! Dizzying tempos!

That’s the contemporary Balkan folk music of legendary Bulgarian accordionist Ivan Milev. Drawing inspiration from multiple styles and sources, including classical, jazz and Eastern Orthodox church music, Milev brings his uniquely inventive style to the rural and urban folk music of the Balkans. In the 1970’s he founded the famous wedding band Mladost (Youth) based in Haskovo, Thrace and they won many prizes throughout Europe. Milev is currently based in New York and performs across the United States. Entcho Todorov is a classically trained virtuoso violinist, playing everything from Brahms to Broadway who trained with Milev for years. They perform in concert together now regularly. You can hear them with Maria Koleva and Vasko Angelov on Friday nights at Bulgara in Long Island City (www.bulgara-ny.com) where there is dancing and rakia drinking. We are thrilled to have them at the Half King!
