As part of its
ongoing commitment to showcase the fine art of photography
and promote the work of photojournalists worldwide,
a21 partnered with The Half King to display an ongoing
series of exhibitions. Previously on display was the work of
Oistín Mac Bride on his ongoing project in the north of
Ireland. |

Oistin
Mac Bride is a photographer, writer, public speaker and
occasional broadcaster who has covered events in the north of
Ireland for 20 years. He has been a political and human
rights activist involved in a wide range of campaigns and issues
from State collusion in killings, to the abuse of prisoners and
the use of repressive legislation. He has also worked and
traveled in several dozen other countries.
His work has appeared in numerous
Irish and international publications including Parade, New York
Daily News, LA Times, Village Voice and Latina. Broadcast work
includes CBS, BBC, RTE and RDF TV Germany.
He has been a consultant with Warner
Brothers and Castlerock Entertainment as well as for a number of
TV documentaries and books. Corporate clients include Unilever,
Donovan Data Systems, William Morrow, Hyperion and
Corbis/Bettman.
Major exhibitions of his work have
been on show in Ireland, Mexico, USA and France. His work
has been used by NGO's including Amnesty International, Human
Rights Watch, The Pat Finucane Center, UNICEF and charities such
as The American Ireland Fund, Concern Worldwide, Catholic
Medical Mission Board and the African American Institute.
He has testified as an Expert Witness
on the north of Ireland during several US Federal Court cases
and to a US Congressional Committee investigating human rights
abuses in the north of Ireland.
He has been repeatedly arrested and
detained. His equipment has been damaged and seized and he has
been attacked and assaulted by Loyalists, RUC officers and
British soldiers while covering the conflict.
His book, "Family,
Friends, and Neighbours, An Irish Photobiography",
covering 20 years of conflict in the north of Ireland is now
available for purchase.
