About The Exhibit Growing up in the shadows of the extreme wealth of the Hamptons summer life has influenced all of Andreanna's work, especially "Cake & Hotdogs." Like a childhood memory or even a memory of family gatherings, the warm weather has always been a time to look forward to. "Wild Women Weekend" is a gathering that has been occurring for over twenty years. It is a weekend that happens once a year in the summer and the matriarch is a woman named Mema. It's a weekend for woman only, no kids, no husbands (boyfriends), no pets, and no work. Its a time where you hang out by the lake, drink and talk about your husbands (boyfriends), kids and work. Within both of these series, the idea of family is important to Andreanna's work. "I try to show with all my work the essence of family, maybe not in the traditional sense of the word family, but family also being a community." Admiring the work of Norman Rockwell, the concept of an idealized lifestyle in American culture is a strong undercurrent with all of her work. About The Photographer Andreanna Lynn Seymore, a freelance photographer based in Brooklyn, New York, has worked for such publications as The New York Times Magazine, Fortune, Mother Jones, and Newsweek. Andreanna graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 1997 with a Bachelor degree in photography. Andreanna will be featured in the book "25 Under 25", to be published by Powerhouse Books in October 2003. In addition, she is currently involved in developing and producing a "Literacy through Photography", a program for ENLACE to encourage and mentor Latin American students in New York City public schools. The program hopes to help students comprehend both English and Spanish language through written word and photography. Funded by a Kellogg Grant, this educational program is affiliated with Queens College, where she is completing her Masters degree. |
