James Rewolinski moderates
Rich Gilligan's DIY project looks at the vernacular architecture of home-made skateparks in Europe and the US. We'll celebrate DIY in three ways:
1) We will screen a 3-minute trailer-in-progress of DIY, a film Rich is co-directing with Irish director Jamie Delaney.
2) This event marks the U.S. launch of Rich's book, DIY. A selection of signed books will be available for sale at a reduced rate of $35 (normally $50). As well, the book will be available in a new special limited edition (10) which includes a custom-made slipcase & an editioned/signed 10 x 8 print.
3) Rich will show us still photos from his project, in a conversation led by James Rewolinski. James owns Labor, a skateshop on Canal Street in Chinatown that is committed to supporting local skaters and smaller brands. He has a deep understanding of both photography & skate culture. He also has a BA in philosophy, an Urban Planning Certificate, and a Masters In urban geography, which all fit well with the subject of DIY
